Art of the day:

A fantastical piece of work that naturally hit my timeline. You see, I don’t use the algo – rather I found artists through tags, followed, and then viewed that artists timelines. It’s lead me to some truly inspired artists. There’s a lot to unpack here. It’s dreamlike – so much so that the small detail of the teeth should catch your attention. Dreams about teeth are very common, you see… (you’ve had one I’m sure, or just google it) and this work is so dense with its visuals that you, as a viewer, become immediately whisked away into this fever. An eye observing, a red hulking skeleton with scythe that casts a guarding gargoyle onto a locked door with feathers. A despaired subject stabbing what seems to be the world; their reflection – who they already perceive as dead and hollowed in the depths. A grave. An apple core. A crane, chains, marbles, and even a wall plug with cord are embellishing a textile like boarder. An immensely strange and emotional piece that only a human could produce. It evokes a powerful, profound feeling of deep sadness in me.

Song of the day:

Another track that seems to instantly mute me, Three Seed by Silversun Pickups. Brian Aubert (lead vocals) along with the rest of the bands backup vocals are that of a harmonious androgyny unique to few groups. The song is about anyone, could be sung by anyone. The first lines “remove a bullet from my head, extracting over confidence…” echoes the same type of feeling I get looking at todays art. It seems as though no matter the circumstances, or the choice, sometimes we will never be enough. “Insufficient”… and so we’ve tried and keep fighting the cycle only to feel let down, let others down, and judge ourselves.

Thought of the day:

Appearances. How I dress is who I am. I realize that most of the time, I’m “dressing poor”. I’d like to blend in with a beggar. Don’t ask me for help. Don’t perceive me as male or female. Rather, don’t perceive me in public. Sometimes though, maybe I want to attract attention. “Be goth”. Halloween calls for it, and I’m old and want to have fun while I still can pass for any measure of “young”. It’s funny how easily perceptions are altered based on one quick judgement; the way you look, the way you sound… more than ever these days, the “normals” in society don’t give a second thought to the light that passes into their eyes and readily label the first fragment of information received. Therefore, do not perceive me. Or do, and question everything.
